We invite all cow/calf and stocker producers to attend our annual feeder calf producer meeting. This event is open to all producers and thanks to our sponsors, there is no cost to attend. This year’s event will feature presentations from three experts as well as information on feeder calf marketing opportunities for 2023. You are welcome to come even if you did not pre-register!

Brian Jackson • “What Cattle Buyers are Looking For”

Cattle Buyer for Eugene Barber & Sons in Lexington, Kentucky

Based in Kentucky, Brian Jackson purchases cattle throughout the southeast including from several sales in NC including the MACS video sales and Norwood’s graded feeder calf sales. He will present what cattle buyers are looking for when purchasing cattle and why as well as how you can capitalize on that information when marketing your calves this year.

 

Jason Duggin • “Utilizing Performance & Genomic Tools for Cattle Improvement”

University of Georgia Beef Extension Specialist

Jason Duggin serves as the UGA Beef Extension Specialist in Calhoun, GA where he supervises the Bull Evaluation and Heifer Development programs and has extensive experience in beef cattle evaluation and selection. He will present how you can use the combination of genomics, performance data, and phenotype to improve your cow herd and calf crop. 

 

Charley Martinez • “Beef Industry Outlook for 2023”

University of Tennessee Extension Specialist

Charley Martinez is an Assistant Professor and Extension Economist in the Department of Agricultural Resource and Economics at the University of Tennessee. After working as a research assistant at Texas A&M University, Charley has been serving UT Extension as a statewide farm and financial specialist since January 2020. He will provide an outlook for what can be potentially expected for the beef industry in the coming year including how this can potentially impact your marketing decisions in this year and beyond.
